Dance Away Sadness

Move Beyond Your Grief®

There is a part of grief that words cannot touch

Dance Away Sadness: Move Beyond Your Grief is a grief support technique that uses free style dancing to help us let our feelings flow and move us through and beyond your grief and feel more peaceful.

Dancing freely allows us to express ourselves in a way that words cannot. Dancing in which we are free to move as we feel can open up the energy centers in our bodies. The flowing energy helps us get in touch with our bodies and deepest emotions, explore our grief and heal our invisible wound.  As Dr. Joe Dispenza said in his TED Talks, experiences change our internal chemical state. This implies that our experiences affect us on our cellular level. When we move, we change our cells and internal chemical state. This is why movement, any movement, is a very effective way to change our feelings and help us move beyond our sadness, to allow us to feel better.  Being able to move as our body and heart feel like to allow us to be at ease and to not worry about doing things right or wrong.  And when we are grieving, there is no right or wrong.  Our feeling is not right or wrong.   What’s right is what feels right to you.

Many scholars have reported music also has similar effect on our biochemical.  When we combine unrestrictive movement with music, such as in free-style dancing, we amplify the benefit of doing each separately.   We recover from our grief easier and faster utilizing both music and free movement at the same time.   This is why free style dancing is very effective in helping us move beyond our grief and heal our invisible wound.   This is something I personally have experienced the healing power of dance first hand, and more than once.

Here’s one sample clip of how free style dancing to help you heal your grief.

Why Would I Dance When I am Sad?

Because dancing freely allows us to express ourselves in a way that words cannot
Dancing in which we are free to move as we feel like to can open up the energy centers in our bodies.
The flowing energy helps us get in touch with our bodies and deepest emotions, explore our grief and heal our invisible wound. I personally have experienced the healing power of dance first hand many times (see “About” page).

I am not a dancer.  Would this work for me?

We don’t need to be a dancer to do this expressive, free-style dancing. Dancing does not always involve trying to force our body to move according to someone else’s rhythm.  In free-style dancing, we move our own rhythm, whether it is just tapping our feet or shaking our whole body while twirling in a circle. In expressive dancing, we follow our heart, to get in touch and release our deepest feelings and emotions.  In fact, Dr. Birgitte herself grew up being told she was not a dance and she never dance until she was 40 years. If she can dance, anyone can :-).

What is the cost of this program?

The live group program is donation based, with NO minimum donation requirement. In other words, if you are having financial challenges already, this dance is FREE.
Please contact us if you are interested in a private one-on-one Dance Away Sadness session.

What can I expect?

The program is approximately 1.5 hours long, with about 1 hour of music.  It is free-style expressive dancing, so I am not going to be leading you on how to dance.   I might give suggestions on what you can do either verbally or by dancing. You are welcome to follow my suggestions, just as much as you are welcome to follow what your heart tells you to do. Perhaps you will feel guided to move very slowly, or very erratically, or sit on the side and just tap your fingers and foot to the music, or even just breathe and do stretches to the music.  Let’s just relax and dance like nobody watching.

What should I wear?

I recommend clothing that allows you to move freely.
You may dance bare-footed or wear comfortable walking or dancing shoes or light sneakers with flexible soles.

Is there age limit to attend this program?

The program is open to anyone age 18 or older

I am still not sure if this is for me…….   I have more questions………..
Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me at
